In fall, you can also go hunting on any of the public hunting lands in the area or on private land as long as you have the owners permission. Over winter, you can go cross country skiing, downhill skiing, tubing, boarding, and snowmobiling. Necedah National Wildlife Refuge
The Refuge is a vital link in the National Wildlife Refuge System in providing important services to wildlife, people, and the habitats which support them. The Elroy-Sparta State Bike Trail is 33 miles of wilderness passing through three railroad tunnels. This trail is one of Wisconsin’s favorite bike rides. You can rent a bike as well as get drop off/pick up service at Speeds Bike Shop (17 miles/22 min.), located at the trail head in Sparta. You will find 270 miles of groomed snowmobile trails in Monroe County. For more information, visit the Monroe County Snowmobile Trails website. Just minutes from Tomah you can experience Whitetail Ridge Recreation Area for downhill skiing, cross-county skiing, tubing and snowboarding.
Ten parks with more than 200 acres of green space provide plenty of space for family fun. Walk the Tomah Recreation Trail, or bring your swimming suit and check out the Aquatic Center in Buckley Park. Winnebago Park & Firemen’s Park are both great locations to host your family reunion.
